Bible Numbers 2.0

Jesus' Core Teachings

Matthew 5:1 to 9:17b gives the most important lessons of Jesus' teachings in one complete continuous section. The numbers Numerics Gematriamark the longest segment of text found to date in the New Testament (January 24, 2019). It would have been most strange if the deep spiritual truths that Jesus taught, so radically different from worldly wisdom, did not have God’s signature.

Because of the length of this passage, more numeric features will be possible. The question is whether they match the pattern set forth by Revelation 1:8 with symmetrical features (i.e. first and last). Yes they do. Jesus' teachings are imbued with God’s spirit.

Due to the sheer size of this passage, the full text in Greek, English and in Numbers Numerics Gematria will not be presented. The passage begins with the very first word of Matthew 5:1, and ends with the 22nd word of Matthew 9:17. The last ten words of verse 9:17 are dropped. These ten words form a complete clause and are extraneous information. Removing them do not destroy the complete sense of 9:17. (The English and interlinear of this verse are presented below to demonstrate.)

Neither is new wine put into old wineskins; if it is, the skins burst, and the wine is spilled, and the skins are destroyed; but new wine is put into fresh wineskins, and so both are preserved. (Matthew 9:17)1
ουδε βαλλουσιν οινον νεον εις ασκους παλαιους ει δε
nor do they put wine new into	wineskins old if and

μη γε ρηγνυνται οι ασκοι και ο οινος εκχειται
lest at least burst the wineskins and the wine is spilled

και οι ασκοι απολλυνται αλλα βαλλουσιν οινον νεον
and the wineskins will perish but they put wine new

εις ασκους καινους και αμφοτεροι συντηρουνται
into wineskins fresh and both are preserved
(Matthew 9:17 GNT)2

The passage begins with Jesus' Sermon on the Mount, teaching the beatitudes, and ends with Jesus telling John's disciples and the Pharisees the parable of the wineskins. In other words, Jesus warned the Pharisees their old attitude would not allow them to accept his teaching. Acceptance would destroy both them and Jesus' teachings.

From Matthew 5:1 to 9:17 are Jesus' teaching and several significant events. These are listed below.

  1. The Beatitudes (5:1-7:29)
  2. Healing a leper (8:2)
  3. Healing the centurion's servant. (8:5-13)
  4. Healing Peter's mother-in-law and many others. (8:14-17)
  5. Attitude of those paying only lip service to his teachings. (8:18-22)
  6. Calming the sea. (8:23-27)
  7. Casting out the demon(s) Legion. (8:28-34)
  8. Healing the paralytic (Son of Man's authority to forgive sin). (9:1-8)
  9. The calling of Matthew. (9:9)
  10. Eating with sinners. (9:10)
  11. Pharisees question associating with sinners. (9:11)
  12. Mercy, not sacrifice. Jesus' mission to call sinners. (9:12-13)
  13. John's disciples ask about fasting. (9:14)
  14. Jesus' answer (bridegroom, new cloth, new wineskins, old destroyed). (9:15-17)

The events after the Sermon on the Mount show various reactions to Jesus' teachings. The numbers Numerics Gematria show they are an integral part to the lessons Jesus taught. No one can hear Jesus' words and come away unchanged (Matthew 7:24-27). This is illustrated in the events afterwards.

Three healing events follow the Sermon on the Mount. The first two are of people who really took Jesus' teachings to heart. In the case of the Roman centurion, Jesus said, Truly, I say to you, not even in Israel have I found such faith. (Matthew 8:10) The centurion received a direct benefit from Jesus' sermon.

Since Peter's mother-in-law was sick, it is unlikely she was present when Jesus taught. Jesus' teachings yielded indirect benefits. This was to show the reality that God’s kingdom was for the poor. And it contrasted with those who came to Jesus just to pay lip service (see below).

The Sermon on the Mount was taught with authority (Matthew 7:29). And in calming the sea and casting out Legion, Jesus demonstrated the firm foundation of his authority over the natural world and the spiritual realm. More importantly, Jesus healed the paralytic to show he had authority to forgive sin. (Matthew 9:1-8)

The Sermon on the Mount was also Jesus' call for sinners. And when the Pharisees questioned why he associated with sinners, Jesus said it was the central part of his ministry of mercy. Only those who knew they needed help were willing to get it.

Jesus' teachings and behaviour left some of John's disciples puzzled. Even believers can be distracted by non-essentials. Jesus set them straight, and warned the Pharisees their old attitude could not accept his teachings without both being destroyed. Jesus' sermon was a direct loss for the Pharisees.

2There are 161 complete verses. (The 162nd verse is only a partial verse. 161 = 7 x 23. SF: 30 = 2 x 3 x 5. SF: 10 = 2 x 5. SF: 7.)

2.2.1The following verse pairs (Nth and Nth last) together and individually are divisible by 7:

a) Nth/Nth last position: 3 26 38 67 69
b) Nth verse value: 5922 4228 3024 5964 2380
c) Nth last verse value: 10521 3479 4228 3927 7014
d) Line b plus line c: 16443 7707 7252 9891 9394

The sum of the positions in line A: 203 = 7 x 29.

Line B: 21518 = 2 x 7 x 29 x 53. SF: 91 = 7 x 13. (The factor of 7 was expected, but the sum of the factors has both numbers associated with God.)

Line C: 29169 = 3 x 3 x 7 x 463. SF: 476 = 2 x 2 x 7 x 17. SF: 28 = 2 x 2 x 7. (The chain of factors goes much further.)

Line D: 50687 = 7 x 13 x 557. (An extra factor of 13 appears.)

The numbers show the truth of what Jesus said in Matthew 7:24-27. Everything he taught had to be accepted and acted upon from beginning to end. Only when someone applied everything would he or she bear fruit.

Relax the stringent conditions just a little bit by not requiring the Nth and Nth last to be individually divisible by 7. The features disappear, once again showing the truth of Jesus' words (Matthew 5:19).

2.2.2Rather than pair up single verses, we can pair up groups of verses from the beginning and end and list those that together are divisible by 7. (The individual groups in this case may or may not be divisible by 7.) There are 484 of them. Select only those that begin and or end at a specific position such that the sum of the positions would be divisible by 7.

a) Group's start position. b) Group's end position.
c) Total of both groups (beginning & end).

There are five sets. The numbers 5, 7, 51, 52, and 28 are the beginning or end positions common in these sets. The sum of these numbers: 143 = 11 x 13. What began by having the sets be divisible by 7 ended with something divisible by 13.

2.2.3Feature 2.2.2 can be made more strict by requiring the groups in each pair to be individually divisible by 7 as well. There are exactly 70 (2 x 5 x 7. SF: 14 = 2 x 7) of them.

a) Group's start position. b) Group's end position.

The sum of lines A and B: 21000 = 23 x 3 x 53 x 7.

2.2.5As in feature 2.2.2, select all those that have a common starting or end point where the sum of the start and end points would be divisible by seven. There are only 3 sets.

a) Group's start position. b) Group's end position.
c) Total of both groups (beginning & end).

a) 21 21 21 21 21 = 105 = 3 x 5 x 7
b) 25 54 58 74 76 = 287 = 7 x 41
c) 74399 425659 477061 680511 708916 = 2366546 = 2 x 7 x 13 x 13003

a) 25 31 = 56 = 2 x 2 x 2 x 7
b) 35 35 = 70 = 2 x 5 x 7
c) 127439 61503 = 188942 = 2 x 13 x 13 x 13 x 43

a) 2 15 19 22 23 40 44 51 65 68 71 = 420 = 2 x 2 x 3 x 5 x 7
b) 77 77 77 77 77 77 77 77 77 77 77 = 847 = 7 x 11 x 11

These groups were selected to be divisible by 13, but when joined together (line C) the factor 7 appears, and in the middle set two additional factors of 13 appears.

The common starting or end points added together: 21 + 35 + 77 = 133 = 7 x 19. SF: 26 = 2 x 13.

2.2.5The previous features were all based on the beginning of the groups. Only one group produces a feature based on the ending. These all end at the 28th verse and begin in different positions.

a) 2 6 12 22
b) 28 28 28 28
c) 317527 275401 221186 89754

Sum of line A: 42 = 2 x 3 x 7.

2.2.6In features 2.2.2 to 2.2.7, groups of verses were paired from the beginning and end that together were divisible by 7. The same could be done by finding paired groups divisible by 13.

2.2.6.1One group begins at the 21st verse.

From verse a) 21 21 21 21 21
To verse b) 25 54 58 74 76
Verse sum c) 74399 425659 477061 680511 708916

Sum of line A: 105 = 3 x 5 x 7.

Sum of line B: 287 = 7 x 41.

Sum of line C: 2366546 = 2 x 7 x 13 x 13003. (Factors of 7 appear even though this was based on 13.)

2.2.6.2One group ends at the 35th verse.

a) 25 31
b) 35 35
c) 127439 61503

Sum of line A: 56 = 2 x 2 x 2 x 7.

Sum of line B: 70 = 2 x 5 x 7.

Sum of line C: 188942 = 2 x 13 x 13 x 13 x 43. (No factor of 7 appears, but there are two extra factors of 13.)

2.2.6.3One group ends at the 77th verse.

a) 2 15 19 22 23 40 44 51 65
b) 77 77 77 77 77 77 77 77 77
c) 941317 807378 757835 713544 695994 496769 450255 358566 178490

a) 68 71
b) 77 77
c) 135343 95407

Sum of line A: 420 = 2 x 2 x 3 x 5 x 7

Sum of line B: 847 = 7 x 11 x 11

Sum of line C: 5630898 = 2 x 3 x 7 x 13 x 10313

2.2.6.4Is it coincidence that only two groups worked, and that both were individually divisible by 7? This naturally means the two verse endings added together are also divisible by 7 (35 + 77).

2.3.1Every second verse: 510860 = 2 x 2 x 5 x 7 x 41 x 89. This means taking the first verse, and every other would be 477960 = 2 x 2 x 2 x 3 x 5 x 7 x 569.

2.3.2Every Nth verse (those divisible by 13).

13: 76739 = 13 x 5903.
15: 61243 = 7 x 13 x 673. SF: 693 = 3 x 3 x 7 x 11.
31: 30615 = 3 x 5 x 13 x 157.
56: 10413 = 3 x 3 x 13 x 89.
66: 18590 = 2 x 5 x 11 x 13 x 13.
78: 14599 = 13 x 1123.

The sum of all the N that worked: 13 + 15 31 + 56 + 66 + 78 = 259 = 7 x 37

2.4.1The verses can be evenly grouped into segments of six verses.

2.4.1.1The sum of the odd positioned segments: 518161 = 7 x 79 x 937.

2.4.1.2The sum of the even positioned segments: 470659 = 7 x 71 x 947.

2.4.2The verses can be evenly grouped into segments of 27 verses.

2.4.2.1The sum of the odd positioned segments: 495530 = 2 x 5 x 7 x 7079.

2.4.2.2The sum of the even positioned segments: 493290 = 2 x 3 x 3 x 3 x 3 x 3 x 5 x 7 x 29.

2.5Verses divisible by 13:

Verse position: 21 48 61 63 68 81 108 149
Verse total: 4862 4056 2496 5616 7800 4251 9529 5070

The sum of these eight verses: 43680 = 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 3 x 5 x 7 x 13.

2.6Last letter of each verse: 11977 = 7 x 29 x 59.

Words And Letters

3There are 2879 words in this passage. 2879 is a prime number with no factors. It shows the uniqueness of Jesus' sermon.

4The number of letters: 13825 = 5 x 5 x 7 x 79. SF: 96 = 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 3. SF: 13.

5The total of the passage: 988820 = 2 x 2 x 5 x 7 x 7 x 1009. (The pairs of two and seven show the perfection of Jesus' teachings.)

6.1Every other word (odd positioned): 501046 = 2 x 7 x 13 x 2753. (Thirteen shows God is behind Jesus' teachings.)

6.2Every other word (even positioned): 487774 = 2 x 7 x 34841.

7.1Every other letter (odd positioned): 494802 = 2 x 3 x 3 x 3 x 7 x 7 x 11 x 17. (Two factors of seven!)

7.2Every other letter (even positioned): 494018 = 2 x 7 x 7 x 71 x 71. (Two factors of seven again!)

8.1The first letter of each word: 144648 = 2 x 2 x 2 x 3 x 3 x 7 x 7 x 41.

8.2The positions of the first letter of each word: 19558910 = 2 x 5 x 7 x 279413.

8.3The last letter of each word: 227052 = 2 x 2 x 3 x 3 x 7 x 17 x 53.

8.4The first and last letters of each word together: 371700 = 2 x 2 x 3 x 3 x 5 x 5 x 7 x 59. (The single factor of 7 was expected. The real feature is hidden in the sum of the factors: 86. Eighty-six is the total for the Hebrew word "Elohim" or God.)

9Every fifth letter: 196385 = 5 x 7 x 31 x 181. SF: 224 = 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 7.

9.1Beginning with the first letter and every seventh after: 140707 = 7 x 20101.

9.2Beginning with the first word and every 7th after: 140166 = 2 x 3 x 3 x 13 x 599.

9.3Every 13th word: 80470 = 2 x 5 x 13 x 619.

9.4Begin with the first word and every 26th after: 38731 = 7 x 11 x 503.

Conclusion

The many symmetrical numeric features based on Revelation 1:8 show Jesus' teachings were imbued with God’s signature. This is our assurance that the early disciples successfully transmitted Jesus' teachings as accurately as they could. It also emphasizes Jesus' revolutionary spiritual teachings. These remain unequalled.

Notes

  1. English Bible verses are from the Revised Standard Version, Thomas Nelson Inc., 1972.
  2. The Greek and English interlinear translation is from eSword 10.4.0 by Rick Meyers with IWH+P.bblx module. Some changes were made by this author so every Greek word would have an English word.
