Bible Numbers 2.0

The Tower Of Babel

Humanity quickly forgets. Not long after The Flood, the greatest catastrophe in human history, men gathered together to reject God (Genesis 7, 11:1-9). They were clever enough to be quiet about the ultimate goal of their work, but God knew their hearts and put an early stop to it.

Why did God intervene at Babel? He did so for the greatest good. There are almost no accounts of divine intervention before The Flood in the Bible. God spoke with Adam, Eve, Cain, Enoch and Noah, but the Bible records little else. It would seem God was willing to allow humanity complete freedom before The Flood, to show people what would happen.

That people had not learned from The Flood meant God had to intervene early. He stepped in because He knew that humanity would rapidly worsen if He did not. And perhaps this time there would be no survivors like Noah. This can also be seen in Isaiah 18:5, where God indicates intervention would occur before a nation's iniquity peaked. Jesus himself said every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down (Matthew 3:10). He used the present tense, not the future tense. This adds another aspect to God's love, patience, and forbearance (Romans 9:22). He intervenes so a greater number of people in the future will have a chance. In our generation and world, it may be that God intervenes much more than we think. We just don't see it.

1 Now the whole earth had one language and few words.
2 And as men migrated from the east, they found a plain in the land of Shinar and settled there.
3 And they said to one another, Come, let us make bricks, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and bitumen for mortar.
4 Then they said, Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.
5 And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the sons of men had built.
6 And the LORD said, Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language; and this is only the beginning of what they will do; and nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them.
7 Come, let us go down, and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.

8 So the LORD scattered them abroad from there over the face of all the earth, and they left off building the city.
9 Therefore its name was called Babel, because there the LORD confused the language of all the earth; and from there the LORD scattered them abroad over the face of all the earth. (Genesis 11:1-9)1

Numeric Features

The Words

The tower of Babel is not about God. It is about men. It is not a good event. The numeric features will not be consistent.

1.Number of words: 121 = 11 x 11. The factors visually show the one God numerically.

Number of letters: 435 (nf).

1.1Numeric total: 28392 = 23 x 3 x 7 x 132. SF: 42 = 2 x 3 x 7.

1.2.1Even valued word sums:

a) Word position. b) Word value.

a) 2 3 6 9 10 14 15 16 21 23 28 31 33 35 37 38 41 43
b) 50 296 262 222 184 620 324 340 12 132 92 20 278 12 86 280 392 86

Word total: 14594 (nf). Positions: 4745 = 5 x 13 x 73. SF: 91 = 7 x 13.

1.2.2Let's get more specific. Even valued word sums in even word positions:

a) Word position. b) Word value.

a) 2 6 10 14 16 28 38 44 46 48 50 52 60 70 72 80 84 88
b) 50 262 184 620 340 92 280 340 226 140 296 26 62 18 806 806 340 426

a) 90 92 96 98 100 104 108 110 112 114 118 120
b) 780 186 100 50 64 70 30 62 780 296 100 50

Word total: 7882 = 2 x 7 x 563. SF: 572 = 2 x 2 x 11 x 13. SF: 28 = 2 x 2 x 7.

1.3.1Last letter of each word: 9334 = 2 x 13 x 359. There is no corresponding feature for the first letter of each word. This is because the beginning of the tower of Babel was not a good event. It is God’s judgment that matters at the end.

1.3.2Once again getting more specific, take the last letter of odd valued words.

a) Word position. b) Last letter of word.

a) 1 4 5 7 8 11 12 13 17 18 19 20 22 24 25 26 27 29 30 32

b) 200 6 5 5 200 1 300 6 40 200 1 5 40

Only the last letter of odd valued words has a feature: 4669 = 7 x 23 x 29.

1.4Number of letters in words having an even number of letters: 238 = 2 x 7 x 17. SF: 26 = 2 x 13.

2.2.2Even positioned segments of 3 letters: 14235 = 3 x 5 x 13 x 73.

2.3.1Odd positioned segments of 29 letters: 13720 = 23 x 5 x 73.

The Proclamation

Because humanity did not worship God, but turned to worshiping themselves, and relied on their works, they rejected the God of The Proclamation. God confused human language and scattered them, accelerating the development of tribes, kingdoms, and nations. Including The Proclamation (Exodus 34:6-7) with the story of Babel reveals more of God’s hand.

3.1The Proclamation and Genesis 11:1-9 together have 154 words (154 = 2 x 7 x 11).

3.2Combined verse totals: 34566 = 2 x 3 x 7 x 823. (This is not a new feature, but a natural outcome of individual totals that are already divisible by 7.)

3.3First last words of each passage: 966 = 2 x 3 x 7 x 23. SF: 35 = 5 x 7.

3.4.1Odd valued words:

God had a hand in human language formation. Is it any surprise that human languages should continue to bear evidence of His work when it expresses ideas that come from Him?

Conclusion

The confusion of human language was one case of early divine intervention. God’s disapproval was clearly seen at the tower of Babel. It was not long after the Flood, and God didn't want humanity destroyed again so soon. But in other circumstances, this will not always be the case (see: The Donkey Speaks). The more egocentric and selfish the people, the more easily they will miss the warning signs. In the end, even Jesus' resurrection was missed by his generation.

Let us not be so closed off from God’s loving voice that He has to strike us with confusion or disaster in order to warn us.
