Bible Numbers 2.0

Praising The One And Only God

Who is mighty as thou art, asks the psalmist. There is no comparison. In these verses, the psalmist tries to describe the supremacy of God. Inspired by the Spirit, his words reflect a part of God’s nature. As a result number Numerics Gematria features similar to Exodus 34:6-7 appear.

O LORD God of hosts, who is mighty as thou art, O LORD, with thy faithfulness round about thee? Thou dost rule the raging of the sea; when its waves rise, thou stillest them. Thou didst crush Rahab like a carcass, thou didst scatter thy enemies with thy mighty arm. The heavens are thine, the earth also is thine; the world and all that is in it, thou hast founded them. The north and the south, thou hast created them; Tabor and Hermon joyously praise thy name. (Psalm 89:8-12 RSV)

Spiritual Truths

As the psalmist said, Who is mighty as thou art? There is none. God is unique, and the only one who commands myriads and myriads (Daniel 7:10). He is steadfast in faithfulness (Exodus 34:6-7), master/owner of creation (Genesis 1:1-2, 7, 9). None can withstand His judgment or power.

This is a psalm to praise God, and an excellent meditation.

Numeric Features

Primary Features

(Derived from Revelation 1:8 and grouped for easy reference.)

A.1Numeric total: 12173 = 7 x 37 x 47. (See feature 2.3.)

A.4Number of words: 42 = 2 x 3 x 7. (See feature 2.1.)

A.5Number of letters: 168 = 2 x 2 x 2 x 3 x 7. (See feature 2.2.)

B.3.2Every other word (even): 6149 = 11 x 13 x 43. (See feature 3.1.)

B.4Every other letter (odd): 6503 = 7 x 929. (See feature 4.1.)

B.4.2Every other letter (even): 5670 = 2 x 3 x 3 x 3 x 3 x 5 x 7. (See feature 4.1.1.)

C.2.3First and last letter of each verse: 169 = 13 x 13. (See feature 1.1.)

C.3.2First and last letter of each word: 5138 = 2 x 7 x 367. (See feature 5.2.)

D.3.3First letter of each word: 2373 = 3 x 7 x 113. (See feature 5.)

E.2.3Last letter of each verse: 126 = 2 x 3 x 3 x 7. (See feature 1.2.3.)

E.3.3Last letter of each word: 2765 = 5 x 7 x 79. (See feature 5.1.)

F.3First half of the words: 5772 = 2 x 2 x 3 x 13 x 37. (See feature 2.1.1.)

G.4.3Last third of the letters: 4732 = 2 x 2 x 7 x 13 x 13. (See feature 2.2.1.)

The Verses

1.1Only the first and last letters of these five verses produce a feature. Their sum: 169 = 13 x 13. SF: 26 = 2 x 13. Since the passage is about God, it is only appropriate the feature parallels the sum of the divine name.

1.2.1The first and last letters of the first and last verses: 77 = 7 x 11.

1.2.2The first and last letters of the verses that are not first or last: 92 = 2 x 2 x 23. The factor 23 points to the human author of the psalm.

1.2.3The first letter of each verse has no feature, but the last letter of each verse does: 126 = 2 x 3 x 3 x 7.

1.3The middle verse: 2244 = 2 x 2 x 3 x 11 x 17. SF: 35 = 5 x 7.

The Words And Letters

2.1There are 42 words (2 x 3 x 7. SF: 12 = 2 x 2 x 3. SF: 7.) The chain of factors ends with seven.

2.1.1First half of the words: 5772 = 2 x 2 x 3 x 13 x 37.

2.2There are 168 letters (2 x 2 x 2 x 3 x 7).

2.2.1Last third of the letters: 4732 = 2 x 2 x 7 x 13 x 13.

2.3The numeric total: 12173 = 7 x 37 x 47. SF: 91 = 7 x 13. (We see God twice in the second level.)

3.1Even positioned words:

46 50 128 523 406 412 309 406 406 88 285 687 50 81 291 82 514 116 643
310 316

Total: 6149 = 11 x 13 x 43. (Unfortunately, the odd positioned words have no corresponding feature.)

Conclusion

The symmetry in so many features cannot be coincidence. Psalm 89:8-12 was inspired to reflect aspects of God in meaning and numbers Numerics Gematria.

The truths in this psalm can also be found in many other psalms praising God. This psalm is not unique. A full in depth look at the numbers doesn't seem necessary.

Notes

  1. The Hebrew or Greek text is from Bibleworks 3.0 by Hermeneutika, Michael S. Bushell, 1995, translated into HTML entities. Vowel marks and punctuation from the Hebrew have been removed. Greek accent marks and punctuation have also been removed. (There is a 1 verse discrepancy between the Hebrew and English numbering of the verses. Hebrew equivalent is Psalm 89:9-13.)
  2. Interlinear translation is from The NIV Interlinear Hebrew-English Old Testament, vol. 3, edited by John R. Kohlenerger III, The Zondervan Corporation, 1982.
