Bible Numbers 2.0

Part 6: The Word
(John 1:1)

(可 惜 這 頁 沒 有 中 文 繙 譯)

太 初 有 道, 道 與 神 同 在, 道 就 是 神
(John 1:1; 約 翰 福 音 1:1 Chinese Union Version [MPT])1

No changes are necessary in the text. The translation into Chinese produces numeric features like those described in Revelation 1:8. In Exodus 34:6-7 and Genesis 1:1, words had to be replaced with 上 帝 (Seung Dai) before numeric features could be found. But here in John 1:1 numeric features can be found without substitution. In fact, replacing 神 (Sahn) with 上 帝 (Seung Dai) destroys any features.

Approximate English:(the) Waywas (emphatically or precisely)god
See: Alphanumeric Substitutions for converting Chinese characters to numbers.

The Chinese reads: In the great beginning there was the Way, and the Way was with (the) god(s), and the Way was god. This is god with a small g, not God with a large capital.

While English, like Greek has only one word god, Chinese has two 上 帝 (Seung Dai) and 神 (Sahn). 上 帝 (Seung Dai) is used exclusively for the one supreme God. 神 (Sahn) applies to all others inferior to 上 帝 (Seung Dai). 上 帝 (Seung Dai) could be referred to as being in the class of 神 (Sahn), but 神 (Sahn) can never be taken as 上 帝 (Seung Dai).2

To insist that 神 can be applied to Almighty God is to impose Western concepts on the Chinese language and twist the original meaning of the word.

As stated in the opening paragraph, replacing 神 (Sahn) with 上 帝 (Seung Dai) either once, or both times destroys the numeric features of this verse. It is as if the numbersNumerics Gematria in the Chinese language force an anti-Trinity stand. (For more on why Jesus is not God, see John 1:1 Explained From The Bible Without The Trinity.)

1.The sum of the words: 37632 = 28 x 3 x 72.

1.2There are 13 words.

2.1Every other word (odd positioned):

148 628 5381 2924 547 4111 2924

Total: 16663 = 19 x 877. This is not divisible by 7 or 13. One has to go to the sum of the factors: 896 = 27 x 7. And then another level of factors: 21 = 3 x 7.

2.2Every other word (even positioned):

1709 5381 5905 529 5381 2064
Total: 20969 = 13 x 1613. The lack of symmetry is apparent. But this is because the verse is not about God. It's about Jesus.

3.1The letter values of the divine name in Hebrew point out the 10th, 5th, 6th and 5th words in this verse:

10 5 6 5
5381 5381 5905 5381

Total: 22048 = 25 x 13 x 53.

3.2They can be used to count through John 1:1 as well:

10 5 6 5
10 15 8 13
10 2 8 13
5381 1709 529 2924

Total: 10543 = 13 x 811.

3.3It can be run through the seven times:

8 13 10 2 8 13 10 2 8 13
529 2924 5381 1709 529 2924 5381 1709 529 2924

Total: 137059 = 13 x 13 x 811.

4.1The second word and second last word together are divisible by 7. This is also true of the third and third last words. Now the second last word is actually the twelfth word in the verse, and the third last word is the eleventh word. Thus adding up the positions of these words: 2 + 3 + 12 + 11 = 28 (2 x 2 x 7).

4.2The fifth word and the fifth last word together are divisible by 13. The fifth last word is actually the ninth word of the passage. Thus: 5 + 9 = 14 (2 x 7).

5.1Beginning with the first word, add up every third word after:

1 4 7 10 13
148 5381 2924 5381 2924

Total: 16758 = 2 x 32 x 72 x 19.

5.2Start with the first word, and add up every fifth after:

1 6 11
148 5905 4111

Total: 10164 = 22 x 3 x 7 x 112.

5.3Add up every sixth word:

6 12
5905 2064

Total: 7969 = 13 x 613.

6.In Chinese Bibles, John 1:1 actually appears like this: 太初有道道與 神同在道就是 神. There is a space before each instance of 神. The space and 神 were meant to stand in place of God's real name/title. (Translators were aware that 神 was inadequate for the one supreme God.) With Big5, on which these numerics are based, the space actually has a negative number value (−767). Let's see what happens when this space is considered.

太初有道道與 神同在道就是 神
Both spaces (original translation): 36098 = 2 x 18049.

太初有道道與神同在道就是 神
First space eliminated: 36865 = 5 x 73 x 101.

太初有道道與神同在道就是神
Both spaces removed: 37632 = 28 x 3 x 72.

Since the space and 神 were supposed to stand in for the real term for God (上帝), what happens if this substitution was tried?

太初有道道與上帝同在道就是上帝
Replace space & 神 with 上帝 both times: 35710 = 2 x 5 x 3571.

太初有道道與上帝同在道就是神
Replace the first set & last space: 36671 (prime).

太初有道道與上帝同在道就是 神
Replace the first set, but retain
the last space and 神: 35904 = 26 x 3 x 11 x 17.

The only one divisible by seven was the one presented above, the anti-Trinity statement, and it is divisible by 49 (7 x 7).

Conclusion

The numbers are not as consistent or symmetrical as The Proclamation. Language and numbersNumerics Gematria come together to make it clear. Jesus is not the lord god (John 10:29; 13:16; 14:28). There is no such thing as the Trinity.3

For more on the Trinity, whether it is a valid theory or not, one must read the Bible. The site Bible Issues has two articles on this subject: John 1:1, and There Is No Trinity.

  3. Now that the method of Chinese numbersNumerics Gematria has been discovered, and the numeric features of John 1:1 work out this way, conceivably someone could edit this verse and make it support the Trinity with 上 帝 (Seung Dai). This, of course, is after the fact. It is too late. The pen of history has already written and moved on. No one can erase the many Bibles that have been printed in Chinese with the original. The only reasonable conclusion is that God wanted our generation to definitively know the theory of the Trinity was a catastrophic mistake.

Out of curiosity, I wondered how easy it might be to re-write the above interpretation to be more faithful to the actual Greek and maintain it's anti-Trinity stance. It wasn't too difficult: John 1:1.
