The Response To Jesus' Teachings
Is, or are there verses in the New Testament with numeric features like God’s proclamation in Exodus 34:6-7? There is one segment of text spanning seven verses, Matthew 13:52-58.1 The numeric features underline its importance. It is not about God, and it is not about Jesus, but the spiritual truths it conveys is vital for the believer. This verse is specifically about the interaction between believers and those who say they believe (in this case, the Jews of Jesus' hometown).
Why This Passage Has Features
The high point of Moses' ministry was on the mountain where he saw all of God’s goodness, glory, and heard The Proclamation of the divine name (Exodus 34:6-7). The high point of Israel was after the conquest of Canaan, when they swore God was their one and only, and promised to obey (Joshua 24:24). Both of these passages have features following the patterns stated in Revelation 1:8 as confirmation.
The high point in this passage is the culmination of Jesus' deepest spiritual teachings in the parables. He asked his disciples if they understood what he had taught. They answered that they did. Since Jesus did not contradict them, this meant the disciples really understood all the parables. The disciples had reached the highest level Jesus could bring them.
But what about the low points? What happens when circumstances are against the believer and everything seems hopeless? Matthew 13:52-58 is also one of the low points of Jesus' ministry on earth. It was a living spiritual lesson to prepare his disciples for what was to come later. The fact that there are many numeric features following Revelation 1:8 and Exodus 34:6-7 underlines the importance of understanding all the parables and how this relates to an unbelieving world. Even in the low points, if we maintain Jesus' teachings, God will be with us.
These seven verses convey many spiritual truths that would not have been so evident had the numeric features not forced a more meditative study. At the very least, the numeric features encourage application of the text. And this is where the meaning of the text answers many more questions.
Wordplay
The Greek word trained
in Matthew 13:52 is μαθητεύω (G3100: matheeteuoo, math-ayt-yoo'-o. From G3101; intransitively to become a pupil; transitively to disciple, that is, enrol as scholar: - be disciple, instruct, teach.)2
The Kingdom Interlinear Translation of the Greek Scriptures gives the intransitive sense as having been made learner.

This word has some similarities to the name Matthew ματθαιον in Matthew 9:9. (G3156: Matthaios, mat-thah'-yos. A shorter form of G3161; Matthaeus (that is, Matthitjah), an Israelite and Christian: - Matthew.) In Hebrew, Matthitjah means gift of Yah.
I don't think it's coincidence. I think it is a play on words between the author of the gospel, the word disciple, and the idea of God’s gift. The Gospel of Matthew is the Gospel of the Disciple, or the learner's gospel. It is a gift from God. This would be quite appropriate as Matthew is the first book of the New Testament. The learner begins at the beginning, with Jesus as God’s greatest gift to sinful humanity. Matthew 13:52-58 is the lesson that the Jews (who had been trained from childhood about God) would not start over, and rejected their messiah.
Matthew 13:52-58
And he said to them,Therefore every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old.And when Jesus had finished these parables, he went away from there, and coming to his own country he taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished, and said,Where did this man get this wisdom and these mighty works? Is not this the carpenter's son? Is not his mother called Mary? And are not his brothers James and Joseph and Simon and Judas? And are not all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all this?And they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them,A prophet is not without honor except in his own country and in his own house.And he did not do many mighty works there, because of their unbelief. (Matthew 13:52-58)
As mentioned at the outset the Greek word's main sense for trained
is actually to become a pupil
which means starting over. The KJV follows this meaning by having the scribe become a disciple of the kingdom.
The word brings out
in Greek is εκβαλλει (G1544: ekballo, ek-bal'-lo. From G1537 and G906; to eject (literally or figuratively): - bring forth, cast (forth, out), drive (out), expel, leave, pluck (pull, take, thrust) out, put forth (out), send away (forth, out).
Many times the KJV translates this as cast out
to follow the main Greek meaning to eject.
It is the same word used in many verses to cast out
demons. But its other sense is seen in Matthew 9:38 where Jesus tells his disciples to ask God to send
out more labourers (see also Matthew 7:4).
This changes the meaning of verse 52. Jesus isn't just describing someone trained in the kingdom of heaven bringing out what is old and new, or teaching what is new and distinguishing it from the old. Jesus is also describing a process of renewal. The scribe
who is already trained and learned, is now learning something new, the kingdom of heaven. From his original learning and training, he throws away whatever doesn't fit, whether it is old or new.
In spiritual terms, one must begin all over (Matthew 18:3). Unfortunately, in matters of the spirit, most people refuse to start all over and do not want to change (Luke 5:39).
Jesus gave this illustration after he taught his disciples the parables. It is the summation of parable teaching, and the result of understanding the parables. As such it is a very important lesson.
The parables were teaching about the kingdom of heaven. They were meant to separate the wheat from the chaff, to separate the chosen from the many who were initially called (Matthew 22:14). Christianity is the call
of the many. Understanding the parables is the winnowing where even what was learned during the call
can be thrown away, especially if it was learned improperly or doesn't fit with the kingdom/parables (Romans 12:2). (After all, if one only holds to the elementary teachings
this is only the very first step. See Hebrews 5:11-14 and 6:1-3. One is at the door and has not even entered. See Matthew 7:14.)
Just previous to this verse, Jesus asked his disciples if they understood the parables he had taught. His disciples said, Yes.
(Matthew 13:51) Jesus then concluded by describing the scribe in verse 52. Verse 53 is a change in scene as Jesus left that area, and as a result, most readers and commentators consider the ending of the chapter to be separate from the parables. The numeric features show otherwise. These seven verses are one unit and should be read as a continuation of the parables.
Having taught his disciples the parables, and about the renewal process in the spiritual life of the believer, Jesus then went to give a living demonstration of the lesson.
He returned to his home town of Nazareth, taught in the synagogue and was rejected. His former acquaintances didn't even bother to think about what he taught, whether it was correct, interesting, or had advanced understanding of the scriptures. They seized upon his origins as the topic to debate. They couldn't even accept sudden creative inspiration as a possibility.
The chapter concludes with, And he did not do many mighty works there, because of their unbelief.

In the process of truly studying the Bible, the believer begins to change. What he once thought was true, he now realizes was only a part of the picture (Isaiah 28:16). He corrects his thinking by throwing out old, or even new conclusions. He tries to share (bring out, send forth) his exciting discovery with others. If he is fortunate to be with like minded believers, they are are all further encouraged (Acts 2:42-43).
Unfortunately in this world, the usual case is demonstrated here in Matthew. The believer's acquaintances do not understand or accept what he has discovered. Their minds are fixed on what they believe and cannot change. There is no encouragement, and there is no fruit. The believer is actually stymied.
Not only can this affect the believer's attempts to delve deeper into God’s word, but it puts a stop to what he was even doing. It becomes more and more difficult to work with these people.
Jesus told his disciples even faith the size of a mustard seed could perform incredible miracles (Matthew 17:20; Luke 17:6). Jesus promised,
And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover. (Mark 16:17-18, 20)
It is not possible for Jesus, the son of God to have faith only the size of a mustard seed. And yet, if Jesus' great faith was stopped by his former acquaintances, how much more would the believer be stopped by the worldly people around him? The reaction of Jesus' hometown was such that he marvelled
at their unbelief (Mark 6:6).
The Church built by the Apostles had miracles and prophets (Acts 6:8, 8:6, 13, 39, 11:28, 21:9-10; 1 Corinthians 12:10, 14:1). But it is clear by the end of the book of Acts both began to slowly fade away. Why they disappeared for 2,000 years of Christian history is explained by Matthew 13:52-58. 4
The mustard seed of faith either shrank even further, and or the unbelief
of the world worsened (Matthew 12:45, also 9:16-17). In Matthew 17:17-20, when the disciples asked Jesus why they could not cast out a demon, Jesus used the same Greek word for unbelief
5 to describe them as he used to describe this perverse generation.
In this case, the disciples stopped believing. Faith shrank to nonexistence, and unbelief increased.
What can be said of Christianity or of churches today? One Church fractured into countless organizations. Seven churches were in Asia Minor when John wrote the book of Revelation. Not one of those churches exists today. No miracles. No prophets. The church joined the world in unbelief.
It is clear from the book of Revelation the individual believer overcomes and conquers, not the church
in general (Revelation 2:7). This is in line with the parables and Jesus' teaching (Matthew 22:14).
Jesus was showing his disciples what would happen when he left. Even though they understood the parables and performed miracles, there would be a time when they would be assailed by unbelief and left just with the renewal of their minds. This process must be continued to strengthen what is at the point of fading entirely (Revelation 3:1-3). If believers can do this, perhaps the miracles and prophets will return (Revelation 11:3-7).
We now supposedly live in a scientific
age and it is one of skepticism. There is propaganda, fake news and alternative facts. The unbelief of the world has worsened. This is actually very depressing, but the numeric features in these verses assure us God is still with us and actively working.
God is the most loving and generous being in the universe. He gave His son to redeem humanity. How much more would He not give (Romans 8:32)? He has always been willing and able to help and save (Exodus 34:6-7). The great men and women of faith have also been ready to intercede (2 Samuel 12:23). Why don't we see their great faith? Why are blessings not poured from heaven? Matthew 13:52-58 is the answer. It is prevented by the unbelief of the many.
There are miracles, and then there are miracles. Not all are blocked by unbelief. Elisha's protection was not contingent on the Syrians believing in the God of Israel (2 Kings 6:11-18). Nor was Jesus' safety dependent on the Jews when he was about to be arrested (Matthew 26:53). In these cases, disbelief, lack of faith, or unbelief does nothing to block God’s will or power. When it comes to God’s servants, it is for God to say what can or cannot be done to them, not Satan, not men, and not circumstances (Job 1:7-12). There are probably other classes of miracles where this holds true as well.
When it becomes clear to those of great faith that humanity is bent on destroying the earth and will not change (Revelation 11:18), then there will only be one intercessory prayer left. O Sovereign Lord, holy and true, how long before thou wilt judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell upon the earth?
(Revelation 6:10) At that point, not only will humanity be open to the forces of chaos that they themselves have unleashed, but they will be facing negative miracles. There will be only punishment (Matthew 10:15-16; Revelation 11:6).

is not really significant since any 7 consecutive numbers added together are naturally divisible by seven. The factors of this sum come to 23, the number of every human's chromosomal pairs. This is very appropriate since the entire passage is about people and their reactions.

Our finite world/universe can be considered nothing in view of eternity and infinity. The factors show God’s perfection, God himself as the number 11, and the number from God’s name.

6The numeric total of the verses: 41468 = 2 x 2 x 7 x 1481.
6.1The sum of the factors of 41468: 1492 = 2 x 2 x 373. At first, the sum of the factors doesn't appear to go anywhere, but they do if the search continues to the next level. SF: 377 = 13 x 29. God’s number shows up again, and is followed by a number divisible by seven in the next level. SF: 42 = 2 x 3 x 7. And to confirm the initial thirteen was not coincidence, the chain of factors ends at seven: SF: 12 = 2 x 2 x 3. SF: 7.
Even though God is not in these seven verses, and is not the subject, it is clear He is underlining the importance of this spiritual lesson.

Revelation 1:8 encourages us to think in complementing categories. In terms of numbers, there is greater and lesser. Rank the words. The 67th item is in the middle of the list. Letter total: 26819 = 13 x 2063. The result is not divisible by seven like Exodus 34:6-7, but the factor associated with God’s name shows. It is not divisible by 7 because Greek is not Hebrew. In Hebrew the shortest word consists of two letters. In Greek, the shortest word can be a single letter. As a result, in Greek some letters have been counted twice. In Hebrew this would not happen.

18.4Revelation 1:8 points to dimensions. Dimensions define objects. Another way to define
an object would be to outline it. The letters on the edges of this block have a total value of 5070 (2 x 3 x 5 x 13 x 13). This means everything else in the block would be 36398 (2 x 18199). No factors of 7, 13 or 23. This feature mirrors feature 16.2. If humanity pushes God to the periphery, humanity is left with nothing.6
Conclusion
The features listed here were all derived from studying Revelation 1:8. They aren't techniques randomly selected just because they produce totals divisible by 7 or 13. They were chosen because they are principles God says identify with Himself. More often than not, these methods produce results without having to try too hard. This would not be the case if everything was due to random chance.
If this was still random chance, why would the results hold so much meaning? Another coincidence? Coincidences don't keep happening. Only God can be behind these features. The numbers Numerics Gematria are highlighting this lesson after the parables.

- My Greek numbers do not follow Ivan Panin's numeric set up. Panin accounted for two Greek letters that had fallen out of use. In his letter/number conversion, Omega ends up with the value 800. This numeric conversion does not include those two letters. Omega has the value of 600.
After discovering the amazing symmetrical features in Exodus 34:6-7 by following the text of Revelation 1:8, I was disappointed to find so few features in Revelation 1:8 (GNT/GNS) using Ivan Panin's numbering system. The passage wasn't even divisible by seven. Not only that, most features I found in the New Testament were inconsistent. I believed there had to be something better, and adjusted the number system. Once I did that, Revelation 1:8 in both versions (GNT/GNS) became divisible by seven.
I believe Panin went on the tryfix
the New Testament Greek because he found few features and the few he found were not consistent.
Here is a brief summary of Matthew 13:52-58 in Panin's numbers.

I believe God does not want us to make a mistake in interpretation. Matthew 13:52-58 describes a sorry state of affairs in the lives of believers. This is not a good thing. If features were found, one might think the lack of miracles was a good thing or did not matter. The lack of similar features parallels the lack of miracles described in the text.
