Bible Numbers 2.0

The Second Great Commandment

In the previous example (Romans 2:13-16), the numbers Numerics Gematria assured us the law still holds. But which law? Jesus summarized it in Matthew 22:37-391. Exodus 34:6-7's features reinforces the idea that loving God is first priority. Here is the second law with numeric features similar to the proclamation.

For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love be servants of one another. For the whole law is fulfilled in one word, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself. (Galatians 5:13-14)2
Υμεις γαρ επ ελευθερια εκληθητε αδελφοι μονον μη την ελευθεριαν εις αφορμην τη σαρκι αλλα δια της αγαπης δουλευετε αλληλοις ο γαρ πας νομος εν ενι λογω πεπληρωται εν τω Αγαπησεις τον πλησιον σου ως σεαυτον (Galatians 5:13-14 GNT)3

In the Greek, the last two words (in red) of verse 14 have been dropped.

the neighbor of you4

The original text is that you should love your neighbour as yourself. For the numbers Numerics Gematria to work, the last two words have to be dropped. This changes the text to you should love your neighbour. Period. The condition of as yourself is no longer present. This actually widens and deepens the command.

Some might say it is only reasonable to love someone as you would love yourself. After all, treating someone as you would treat yourself starts first with knowledge of how you treat yourself. And it would seem unreasonable to ask someone to treat another person in a way he or she is completely unfamiliar.

At the same time, some people actually don't treat themselves very well. Some people might not really love themselves. We all know of some people who are very hard on themselves. If they took this standard and applied it to someone else, would that be appropriate?

By taking as yourself out of the phrase the question arises as to what? In this case it is clear whose standards should apply: God’s.

Verse Features

1.First letter of each verse: 260 = 2 x 2 x 5 x 13.

Words And Letters

2.1Numeric total: 8540 = 2 x 2 x 5 x 7 x 61. SF: 77 = 7 x 11.

2.2Number of letters: 161 = 7 x 23. Factor 23 is very appropriate since this is a law concerning people dealing with people. Factor 7 indicates this is what God wants, and that love fulfills the law.

Conclusion

In the previous study, Romans 2:13-16 was about the necessity to fulfill the law, whether one had the law or not. It was a general principle. There weren't many features, and they were inconsistent. There are more features in Galatians 5:13-14, and they are more consistent. Why? Because this verse is not just a general principle. It is specific. The numbers Numerics Gematria emphasize the importance of the second great commandment.

Notes

  1. Unfortunately, Matthew 22:37-39 has very few numeric features (both GNT and GNS). Perhaps that is why numeric features show up here in Galatians 5:13-14.
  2. English reference quotes are from the Revised Standard Version, Thomas Nelson Inc., 1972.
  3. The Hebrew or Greek text is from Bibleworks 3.0 by Hermeneutika, Michael S. Bushell, 1995, translated into HTML entities. Vowel marks and punctuation from the Hebrew have been removed. Greek accent marks and punctuation have also been removed.
  4. The Kingdom Interlinear Translation of the Greek Scriptures, by New World Bible Translation Committee, Watchtower Bible & Tract Society of New York, Inc., 1969 (This is not to advocate for the Jehovah's Witnesses or to support them. It is listed because the book was a Greek-English interlinear easily obtainable at a time of limited means and when interlinear books were expensive and difficult to find.)
