Numbers In The Philadelphian Church Passage
Revelation 3:7-13
These seven verses concerning the church at Philadelphia are unique among the seven churches. This is the only church where Jesus said, I have loved you.
No other church received such praise. If Jesus loved them, then God loved them as well (John 14:21). And because they were loved, Jesus promised they would not undergo the trial that would test the rest of the world. 7 And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: "The words of the holy one, the true one, who has the key of David, who opens and no one shall shut, who shuts and no one opens. 8 I know your works. Behold, I have set before you an open door, which no one is able to shut; I know that you have but little power, and yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name. 9 Behold, I will make those of the synagogue of Satan who say that they are Jews and are not, but lie -- behold, I will make them come and bow down before your feet, and learn that I have loved you. 10 Because you have kept my word of patient endurance, I will keep you from the hour of trial which is coming on the whole world, to try those who dwell upon the earth. 11 I am coming soon; hold fast what you have, so that no one may seize your crown. 12 He who conquers, I will make him a pillar in the temple of my God; never shall he go out of it, and I will write on him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem which comes down from my God out of heaven, and my own new name. 13 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches." 1.The first and simplest number to note is that there are seven verses.
1.1According to the software program Bibleworks 3.0, the seven verses concerning Philadelphia are the 30755th, 30756th, 30757th, 30758th, 30759th, 30760th, and 30761st verses of the Bible (counting from Genesis 1:1). Any seven consecutive numbers added together would be divisible by seven, but the result for Philadelphia is much more than just divisible by seven.

Total of the positions: 215306 = 2 x 7 x 7 x 13 x 13 x 13! (One factor of seven was expected, but there are two. The three 13s show God loves the believers at Philadelphia as well, since 13 is associated with the divine name in Hebrew.)
1.2Pairing the Nth and Nth last of these seven positions always results in a symmetrical number: 61516 (2 x 2 x 7 x 13 x 13 x 13).
1.3The very middle position is half the symmetrical number 61516: 30758 = 2 x 7 x 13 x 13 x 13. (They are paired because Jesus said, "I am the first and the last." [Revelation 1:17])
The only other possible place in the Bible where this could have occurred would be from Psalm 89:49 to Psalm 90:3, but unfortunately, these are psalms by different authors. Was it coincidence that the passage on Philadelphia would be in this precise location in the Bible? (An attempt to find seven verse positions that add up to 76 yields only Proverbs 14:31-15:2. These are all individual proverbs.)
1.4The beginning of the passage on Philadelphia is the 56th verse of the book of Revelation. (56 = 2 x 2 x 2 x 7. SF: 13.)
1.4.2It is 49 verses from Revelation 1:8 where God said He was the Alpha and the Omega.

Combine the position in the book with the distance from Revelation 1:8: 413 + 364 = 777 (3 x 7 x 37). As noted before, adding any 7 consecutive numbers always produces a total divisible by seven. It's just that in this case, the total has three digits of seven.
1.4.4The last verse on Philadelphia is the 344th verse from the end of the book of Revelation. This means there are 343 verses after Philadelphia. (343 = 7 x 7 x 7.) It would have been perfect if the last verse was the 343rd verse from the end of Revelation since this would match the beginning verse. But some imperfection should be expected since the passage is about Philadelphia, not about Jesus or God.
If it was just coincidence in item 1.3, why would item 1.4 also show something? Coincidence again?
1.4.5Note: There are differences in the chapter and verse divisions between the Hebrew and English Bibles. Some English Bible versions even differ among themselves in the exact number of verses. Bibleworks' Hebrew data can be exported as a text file with every verse on its own line. Counting the number of lines yields the number of Hebrew verses. Doing it this way ignores English differences and finds 23213 verses. Revelation 3:7 is the 7573rd verse of the New Testament. Adding the number of Hebrew verses from the Old Testament would give Philadelphia's verse position from the beginning of the Bible: 7573 + 23213 = 30786 = 2 x 3 x 7 x 733.
1.4.6Where a chapter begins and ends may differ between the Hebrew and the English, but for the most part the number of chapters is the same. The only difference is part of Malachi chapter 3 being considered the fourth chapter in English. This gives the English Bible 1189 chapters. If the Hebrew chapter divisions were used, the Bible would have 1188 chapters.
Coincidentally, using the English number of chapters, Revelation 3 would be the 1170th chapter of the Bible: 1170 = 2 x 3 x 3 x 5 x 13. SF: 26 = 2 x 13.
Using the Hebrew number of chapters, Revelation 3 would be the 1169th chapter of the Bible. 1169 = 7 x 167.
Strangely enough, whether one used the Hebrew number of chapters, or the English, both result in something.
1.4.7There is one Hebrew manuscript for the Old Testament from the Masoretes, and many different Greek manuscripts for the New Testament. But even the Old Testament manuscript has scribal additions in the form of single letters, and rare places where text is missing. Thus this feature should be considered purely coincidental.
The first letter in Revelation 3:7 is the 1833819th letter in the Bible (3 x 132 x 3617). This is assuming
the OT has 1197059 letters with all extraneous single letters removed and various other oddities accounted for. The GNT from Matthew 1:1 up to and including Revelation 3:6 has 636759 letters. Thus from the beginning of Genesis 1:1 to the end of Revelation 3:6, 1197059 + 636759 = 1833818 (2 x 7 x 130987). One more letter would be the start of Revelation 3:7, or 1883819. In terms of letters, the passage on Philadelphia is coincidentally placed in the right position even in relation to Genesis 1:1. (Unfortunately, this does not work with the words.)
Number of words from Revelation 1:1 to Revelation 3:6: 1231. Thus the very first word of Revelation 3:7 would be the 1232nd (2 x 23 x 7 x 11) word of the book. Philadelphia is coincidentally perfectly placed in relation to its own book. (Unfortunately this does not work with the New Testament as a whole.)
Number of letters from Revelation 1:1 to Revelation 3:6: 5544 (2 x 22 x 32 x 7 x 11) is coincidentally perfect. Revelation 3:7 would be the 5545 letter, and this does not work.
The placement of the passage on Philadelphia was unique and precise. The text itself has numeric coincidences. (Click the button to display the conversion of Greek to numbers.)

2.There are 194 words, and 877 letters.
2.1The numeric total of the entire passage: 64337 = 72 x 13 x 101. SF: 128 = 27.
There are two factors of seven, and a factor of thirteen to show God’s hand in this passage. (It must be remembered that the vision John saw was given to Jesus from God [Revelation 1:1].) The factor of 101 stands for the one God who is at the beginning and end. The digit zero in the middle is our finite creation compared with eternity before and after. The sum of the factors is 128. This is not divisible by 7 or 13, but 128 is two to the power of seven.
2.2The values of the first and last letters of each word together: 29890 = 2 x 5 x 72 x 61. (Unlike Exodus 34:6-7, and Revelation 1:8, where God describes Himself, the first letter or the last letter of each word by itself are not divisible by 7. They have to stand together.)
2.3.1Odd valued words: 26065 = 5 x 13 x 401.
2.3.1.1Odd valued words in odd word positions: 11123 = 72 x 227.
2.3.2Even valued words: 38272 = 27 x 13 x 23.
2.3.2.1Even valued words in even word positions: 17164 = 22 x 7 x 613. SF: 624 = 24 x 3 x 13.

2.4.1Words with an odd number of letters:

There are several numeric clues pointing to this key phrase. The entire passage has a total of 64337. This total factors as 7 x 7 x 13 x 101. Coincidences are different from verse to verse, but each verse does have something! None of the passages on the other churches have anything like this. Not only is Philadelphia perfectly positioned in the Bible and in Revelation, but the words and letters themselves as numbers appear unique as well.
The features are not as consistent as in other passages. This is because Philadelphia is a church of people. The passage is not about God, Jesus or an angel. Even the spiritual truth about the importance of keeping the word is stated in a low key fashion. To see how unique this passage is, an experiment is carried out on the meaning of the passage after feature 10.

The contrast between Israel and Philadelphia is one of not keeping the word
(Israel's disobedience) and keeping the word
(Philadelphia's obedience). Jeremiah's prophecy showed Israel suffering for centuries. John's vision assured Philadelphia their reward had already been given, and they would be exempt from the trial to test the world. God loved Israel and Philadelphia, but that love would not overlook disobedience (see Revelation 3:19).
Past, Present, Or Future?
Is the Philadelphian church still in existence today? Or did this church come to an end in the next few decades or centuries? The numbers give a fair clue.
Aside from the Nestorians, the Catholics were some of the earliest missionaries to China. They were also among the first to translate the Bible into Chinese. Revelation 3:7-13 is presented below from the Chinese Catholic Bible.

There are 133 words (7 x 19. SF: 26 = 2 x 13). The numeric total is 38269 = 72 x 11 x 71. SF: 96 = 25 x 3. SF: 13. One other Revelation 1:8 feature to note is that the odd positioned letters, within their own words total 18214 = 2 x 7 x 1301. And this means the even positioned letters within their own words total 20055 = 3 x 5 x 7 x 191. There aren't many more features in the Hebrew because Hebrew is not the original language of the New Testament.
Now there are three different languages of the same passage all being divisible by seven. The Chinese and Greek are both divisible by seven and thirteen, while the Hebrew is divisible by seven twice. (This is even though the Catholic version in Chinese has an inaccurate translation in using 天主 [heavenly master] for the Greek θεος [Theos; God], when there actually is a Chinese term for the one supreme God: 上帝.)
Words and letters mean nothing in themselves. It is the meaning that is important. Meaning basically stays the same even if the language changes. This was confirmed by the Chinese and Hebrew texts presented above. By following the essential Greek meaning, both versions had numeric features.
Three different languages, from three different geographic areas, and three different times would seem to mean the Philadelphia church is still current. This was written and translated for all believers, for all time, to know. This can also be seen in the Russian language.
An Experiment
If it is the meaning that provides the numeric coincidences, then improving the Chinese Catholic text with 上帝 should also work. But it does not.
This is because there is always more than one way of translating a passage. The Catholic version is only one way of translating Revelation 3:7-13. There are an infinite number of ways it could have been done. Rather than search through an infinite number of ways, the following experiment will limit itself to only a handful of possibilities.
First let's see what happens under normal situations with random chance. Then the same will be applied to the meaning of Revelation 3:7-13.
A computer can be programmed to generate 39366 sets of numbers. Each set contains 296 random numbers from 1 to 9999. Each set is then tested for the following:
a) A total divisible by 7 and or 13. b) Odd positioned numbers totaling 7 and or 13. c) Even positioned numbers totaling 7 and or 13. d) Odd valued numbers totaling 7 and or 13. e) Even valued numbers totaling 7 and or 13. f) The first half of the numbers totaling 7 and or 13. g) The last half of the numbers totaling 7 and or 13.
Only sets that fulfill all seven conditions will be considered a success.
This is what the computer found in running 39366 sets ten times:

In total there were only 8 successful sets. This would average out to 0.8 for each of the ten tries of 39366 sets. Or put another way, it is 8 out of 393660 tries, or 0.00002. In actuality, six out of ten times finds nothing. Less than half (four) of the ten tries results in anything at all, and half of those times only one result can be found.
Thus it is very unlikely the Greek passage of Revelation 3:7-13 being translated to another language would fulfill those seven conditions.
(The reason why each trial consists of 39366 sets of numbers is because sometimes there are many ways of translating a given sentence. This will be seen below.)
The experiment is carried out by translating the Greek to Chinese. There are three major Chinese versions of the Bible to draw upon for the experiment: Catholic (CAT), Chinese Union Version (CUV), and Chinese New Version (CNV). This experiment draws on each version as a possible translation for the clauses within each verse. By retaining entire clauses, the end result would remain more familiar to Chinese Christians, and avoid searching through infinite possibilities.

Some verses have more than one clause. Some clauses are the same in the CUV and CNV. The possibilities for each clause are listed below, along with which Chinese Bible it came from.
The only changes to the translations for this experiment are the replacement of the terms 天主, and 神, which non-Chinese missionaries used for God
, with the proper Chinese term 上帝 for the sole supreme being. 神 is only retained in reference to the Holy Spirit in the CAT for verse 13.

All told, 39366 possibilities can be generated from the data above. Surprisingly, there were five successes! This compares with the computer simulation carried out at the beginning, which found at most only 3 in any given try, and that only occurred twice in ten tries. Before the Chinese experiment, a test was made using random numbers to see how easy it would have been to produce something that would fulfill seven conditions. It wasn't easy. Yet with one try, a Chinese version of the passage could be pieced together from three translations of Revelation 3:7-13. And this version had even more coincidences buried within it. Is this still just coincidence, or is there something in the very meaning of the words?
(Note: Random numbers do not have to account for meaning and are meaningless. Working with an actual language to transmit meaning restricts many possibilities. Producing a Chinese passage with many numeric features is much more difficult than it would appear.)
Conclusion
The church at Philadelphia was very special in Jesus' eyes. This was the only church to which Jesus said, I have loved you.
This uniqueness becomes clear when the Greek text or its translation into Chinese is converted to numbers. In essence, this guarantees that those who keep Jesus' word will be loved by him and by God (John 14:24). And because they love Jesus and God, they will be kept from the trial that tests the world.
