Beware Substituted Teaching

Bible teaching was the most important task of the first church. (Acts 6:2) Over a thousand years of misunderstanding God’s word had to be corrected. (Isaiah 29:13-14; Matthew 15:8-9) At the same time, Bible teaching was necessary to prevent the world's ideas from infiltrating the church. (Matthew 13:31-32) Adulterated teachings have deadly consequences even today. (Revelation 2:12-16)

The importance of having correct teaching is borne out in two passages of the Bible, Isaiah 29:11-19, and Matthew 15:8-13. Jesus' quote of Isaiah's prophecy extends the prophecy to all people who profess to believe, not just Israel. The numeric features found when the two passages are combined add weight to Isaiah's prophecy, and to Jesus' prediction of what happens to those careless in handling God’s word.

11 And the vision of all this has become to you like the words of a book that is sealed. When men give it to one who can read, saying, "Read this," he says, "I cannot, for it is sealed." 12 And when they give the book to one who cannot read, saying, "Read this," he says, "I cannot read."
13 And the Lord said: "Because this people draw near with their mouth and honor me with their lips, while their hearts are far from me, and their fear of me is a commandment of men learned by rote; 14 therefore, behold, I will again do marvelous things with this people, wonderful and marvelous; and the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the discernment of their discerning men shall be hid."
15 Woe to those who hide deep from the LORD their counsel, whose deeds are in the dark, and who say, "Who sees us? Who knows us?" 16 You turn things upside down! Shall the potter be regarded as the clay; that the thing made should say of its maker, "He did not make me"; or the thing formed say of him who formed it, "He has no understanding"?
17 Is it not yet a very little while until Lebanon shall be turned into a fruitful field, and the fruitful field shall be regarded as a forest? 18 In that day the deaf shall hear the words of a book, and out of their gloom and darkness the eyes of the blind shall see. 19 The meek shall obtain fresh joy in the LORD, and the poor among men shall exult in the Holy One of Israel. (Isaiah 29:11-19)¹

The paucity of divine revelation today is because people have accepted too much of the world's beliefs of what Christianity is supposed to be. Even if there was a vision, it is sealed and would not be understood. (Isaiah 29:11) Lack of in-depth Bible knowledge is not much different from someone who doesn't know how to read.

It isn't just a problem with replacing God’s teaching with something else. Most people don't know how to teach and rely on rote memorization. (Isaiah 29:13) God makes it clear such wisdom (learning) will perish. (Isaiah 29:14) And those who do manage to see will not be able to pass it on to others because the entire educational structure can't accept anything different.

Replacing what God taught leads to people not understanding God at all. They believe God is blind and incapable of doing anything. (Isaiah 29:15-16) God calls this utter foolishness.

God will do something wonderful and marvellous to show He is God. The deaf will hear and the blind will see. (Isaiah 29:18) The meek and poor will have new joy. (Isaiah 29:19) This was fulfilled when Jesus healed thousands during his time on earth. (Matthew 8:17; Luke 7:21-23) It was fulfilled when Jesus gave his sermon on the mount. (Matthew 5:3)

10 And he called the people to him and said to them, "Hear and understand: 11 not what goes into the mouth defiles a man, but what comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man."
12 Then the disciples came and said to him, "Do you know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this saying?"
13 He answered, "Every plant which my heavenly Father has not planted will be rooted up. (Matthew 15:8-13)

In quoting Isaiah's warning about man made doctrine, Jesus was proving by his miracles he was fulfilling Isaiah's prophecy. He was also warning us against falling into the same old trap. Accepting man made concepts as doctrine leads to vain worship. (Matthew 15:8) This also happens because people don't want to accept what God taught. They'd rather worship God their own way. Moses warned about this useless religion. (Deuteronomy 12:8)

One man made concept was that people were ritually polluted by unclean things they ate. Jesus pointed out the heart of the matter. What comes out of the human heart was more important than what a person ate. What came out of the heart showed what a person really was like. (Matthew 15:10-11)

Jesus' disciples were concerned how the Pharisees would view such a statement. Jesus told them what really mattered was God. That which was not from God would be plucked up and destroyed. (Matthew 15:13) This would include their useless teaching and knowledge. Isaiah had warned such teaching and knowledge would perish.

Here are only a few of the myriad ways the world substitutes for Bible teaching.

• There is a push for believers to accept ideas like Climate Change or Global Warming. We are told more natural disasters will come if people don't cut back on fossil fuels. This hides the fact that God specifically tied natural disasters to sin when sin becomes too great. (Leviticus 26:18-19; Deuteronomy 28:22-24) The world would have you believe all are responsible just by daily living when there definitely are some people/nations much more responsible than others.
• The Western world promotes democracy and freedom. This is a lie because the first push for democracy came from Korah's rebellion. (Numbers 16:1-3) God labelled the first push for a king (upper level government) as rebellion. (1 Samuel 8:7-8)
• Communism, we are told, is wicked and evil. Yet the very first church held everything in common. (Acts 4:32)
• The financial world operates on charging interest for money borrowed. In the law of Moses, interest was forbidden among Israelites. (Exodus 22:25)
• The business community profits on food. In the law of Moses profit on food was not allowed. (Leviticus 25:37)
• Artificial Intelligence (AI) is sold and hyped as the next innovative step in technology. This is nothing more than a very complex set of thousands of formulas run together at high speed. Babylon's great power in Revelation 18:23 is sorcery. The Greek word is φαρμακεια (pharmakeia), from which the English derives words such as pharmacy, and pharmaceuticals. It's not just chemical drugs but the very idea of a formula. It borders on the magical. Follow these exact steps and you will be rich, healthy, happy, handsome, beautiful, successful... Didn't work? Well, sorry, but you didn't follow the formula exactly. Anyone who thinks AI is a great idea should first read the article Why the Bronx is burning.
• The world would have you worship the rich, the powerful, the celebrity. Governments today favour the elite. The Bible stands in opposition. Just in the book of Deuteronomy, four times God told Israel to remember they were slaves in Egypt and that He liberated them. The laws He gave were for the vast majority of the population, calling for mercy towards the poor, orphans, widows, and sojourners. These were left of centre laws. (Deuteronomy 15:15, 16:12, 24:18, 24:22)

Psalm 2 and John 15:19 make it clear the Christian is not supposed to be of the world and is supposed to always be on guard against it.

The numeric conversion of Isaiah 29:11-19 is given below.

Isaiah 29:11-19 has 131 words, 517 letters, and a numeric total of 31827. None of these numbers are divisible by 7 or 13.

The Greek text of Matthew 15:8-13 is converted into numbers.

This passage has 80 words, 428 letters, and a numeric total of 26546. (2 x 13 x 1021. SF: 1036 = 2² x 7 x 37.) Although Matthew's passage is divisible by 13, there aren't very many numeric features following Revelation 1:8.

To prove Jesus in Matthew 15:8-13 is the fulfillment of the prophecy in Isaiah 29:11-19, the two passages are put together. A wondrous thing happens.

What is curious is that the groups divisible by 7 have the sum of the starting positions divisible by 13, while the reverse is true for groups divisible by 13. How is it possible that the list in 3.12, which was not divisible by 7 or 13, and which was produced by eliminating all letters that were first or last in a word, could be turned into groups with totals that are divisible by 7 and 13, simply by gathering them into group sizes that were multiples of 7 and 13? It would appear this was designed.

4.1The odd positioned letters: 28700 = 2² x 5² x 7 x 41. (This is similar to the odd positioned words.)

4.2The even positioned letters: 29673 = 3³ x 7 x 157. (This is similar to the even positioned words.)

There are over 3900 ways these letters can be grouped for numeric features.

4.3Besides taking the odd/even positioned letters, one could take every Nth letter. The following values of N selects letters that will have a total divisible by 91 (7 x 13):

Total of the N values: 2093 = 7 x 13 x 23.

4.4.1Exactly 231 letters are odd valued. (231 = 3 x 7 x 11. SF: 21 = 3 x 7.)

4.4.2Precisely 714 letters are even valued. (714 = 2 x 3 x 7 x 17.}

4.4.2.1The positions of the odd valued letters have no feature, but the positioned of the even valued letters do. The total of their positions: 324363 = 3 x 13 x 8317. SF: 8333 = 13 x 641.

4.5Whether a letter is odd/even valued depends on its last digit. This heavily favours the even valued letters due to the assignment of numbers to letters. To balance this out, categorize the letters according to the odd/even value of their first digit.

4.5.1Total of the letters whose first digit is odd (517 of them): 21147 = 3 x 7 x 19 x 53.

4.5.2Total of the letters whose first digit is even (428 of them): 37226 = 2 x 7 x 2659.

4.6Exactly 49 letters are multiples of 7.

4.6.1Precisely 13 of these are the letter 7. These are the positions of the letter 7:

Total of the positions for the letter 7: 6500 = 2² x 5³ x 13.

4.7When the letters are added up one by one, 135 times the accumulated total will be a multiple of 7. The positions of the letters where this occurs total 59839 (13 x 4603).

4.7.1Forty-six times the letter position, letter value, and accumulated total will all be odd valued. The total of the letters: 210 = 2 x 3 x 5 x 7.

4.7.2A hundred and ninety times the letter position, letter value, and accumulated total will all be even valued. The total of these letters: 14000 = 2⁴ x 5³ x 7.

4.7.2.1The positions of these 190 letters: 83148 = 2² x 3 x 13² x 41.

4.8The lowest valued letter in the passage is 1, and it appeared 88 times for a total of 88. The highest valued letter is 600, and it appeared 8 times for a total of 4800. Thus the lowest and highest valued letters together total 4888 (2³ x 13 x 47).

4.8.1Letter 1 appeared the most at 88 times, and the total of all its positions in the passage: 42712. Letter value 3 appeared the least at four times, and the total of all its positions in the passage: 2320. Thus the positions in the passage of letters with the most and fewest appearances together total 45032 (2³ x 13 x 433).

4.8.2Letter 3 occurred only four times for a total of 12. This is the lowest total. Letter 200 occurred 56 times for a total value of 11200. This is the highest total. 3 + 200 = 203 (7 x 29).

4.9The table below lists 33 ways of grouping the 945 letters into alternating groups of M-number of letters and N-number of letters where M and N are either multiples of 7 or 13 letters.

4.10.1Four letters have the unique function of dividing the passage into what is between their first and last occurrences and what is not between them. (What is not between them includes the first and last occurrences.)

This is not the result of random chance because 20 + 70 + 90 + 9 = 189 (3³ x 7). Skeptics would say this is only a one in seven chance, and not impossible, but they can't explain why the total of all their occurrences in the combined passage is 6981. (3 x 13 x 179 = 195. SF: 3 x 5 x 13. SF: 21 = 3 x 7.)

4.10.2The same is also possible with the fourth and fourth last occurrences of a letter.

The total of these letters is 154 (2 x 7 x 11).

4.10.3Two letters have their 8th and 8th last occurrences dividing the passage.

The total of these two letters: 105 (3 x 5 x 7).

4.10.4Two other letters have their 18th and 18th last appearances dividing the passage.

The total of these letters is 35 (5 x 7).

4.10.5Three letters have their 12th and 12th last appearances dividing the passage.

The total of these letters is 91 (7 x 13).

There are other letters that divide the passage into what is between and not between their Nth and Nth last appearances, but the sum of these letters for each specific N do not amount to anything. The skeptic would claim this is all random chance. The letters in each table adding up to a multiple of 7 is just a one in seven chance, and not impossible. What they miss is an overall pattern tying them together.

The results in 4.10.1 stand apart from the results in 4.10.2, 4.10.3, 4.10.4, and 4.10.5, because it is the only one strictly adhering to what is first and last according to Revelation 1:8. The other results stand apart because they are not first or last. From 4.10.2 to 40.10.5 it is the 4th and 4th last, 8th and 8th last, 18th and 18th last, and 12th and 12th last. These Nth numbers, 4, 8, 18, and 12 add up to 42 (2 x 3 x 7).

But what happens if all the possible results were considered? (This would be everything from 4.10.1 to 4.10.5. and is presented below.)

4.10.6When all the results are considered, the total of all the letters (a): 2849 = 7 x 11 x 37.

4.10.6.1Remove the result from 4.10.1 because it is the only one derived from first and last: 2849 − 189 = 2660 = 2² x 5 x 7 x 19. SF: 35 = 5 x 7. Now the sum of the factors goes an extra level. This shows the results in 4.10.1 should stand alone.

4.10.6.2Returning to all the results, line b contained the numbers for the Nth and Nth last occurrences. The total of N from line b: 984. Since this includes the results of 4.10.1, subtract those results: 984 − 4 = 980 (2² x 5 x 7²). There are now two factors of 7.

The letters of the combined passage appear to follow the rule of first and last (Alpha and Omega), and complementary opposites.

4.11The letters are placed in a 27 column by 35 row rectangle.

4.11.1Outside: 7483 = 7 x 1069.

4.11.2Inside: 50890 = 2 x 5 x 7 x 727. SF: 741 = 3 x 13 x 19. SF: 35 = 5 x 7.

4.11.3Difference between outside and inside: 43407 = 3² x 7 x 13 x 53.

4.11.4Series of perimeters: 29729 = 7 x 31 x 137. SF: 175 = 5² x 7.

4.11.5Odd positioned columns: 29204 = 2² x 7² x 149.

4.11.6Even positioned columns: 29169 = 3² x 7 x 463. SF: 476 = 2² x 7 x 17. SF: 28 = 2² x 7.

Conclusion

All these numeric features confirm Jesus's quotation and proper application of Isaiah's prophecy. When people abandon what God gave, they become blind and deaf. Though they still pay lip service, their hearts are far from God. It isn't just their religion that is in vain, but everything that stems from that religion, their culture, nation, history, and more importantly their future. Well did God say the nations labour in vain and only for fire.

Behold, is it not from the LORD of hosts that peoples labor only for fire, and nations weary themselves for nought? (Habakkuk 2:13)
