Bible Numbers 2.0

He Has Borne Our Griefs

Jesus bears our sins, our griefs, our infirmities and heals us. This is complete healing, spiritual, mental and physical. Isaiah 52:13-53:12 prophesied this. The fulfillment of this prophecy is in Matthew 8:3-17. When the two passages are joined as one, numeric features appear following the pattern of The Proclamation where God describes Himself.

13 Behold, my servant shall prosper, he shall be exalted and lifted up, and shall be very high. 14 As many were astonished at him -- his appearance was so marred, beyond human semblance, and his form beyond that of the sons of men -- 15 so shall he startle many nations; kings shall shut their mouths because of him; for that which has not been told them they shall see, and that which they have not heard they shall understand. 53:1 Who has believed what we have heard? And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed? 2 For he grew up before him like a young plant, and like a root out of dry ground; he had no form or comeliness that we should look at him, and no beauty that we should desire him. 3 He was despised and rejected by men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. 4 Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that made us whole, and with his stripes we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all. 7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth; like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like a sheep that before its shearers is dumb, so he opened not his mouth. 8 By oppression and judgment he was taken away; and as for his generation, who considered that he was cut off out of the land of the living, stricken for the transgression of my people? 9 And they made his grave with the wicked and with a rich man in his death, although he had done no violence, and there was no deceit in his mouth. 10 Yet it was the will of the LORD to bruise him; he has put him to grief; when he makes himself an offering for sin, he shall see his offspring, he shall prolong his days; the will of the LORD shall prosper in his hand; 11 he shall see the fruit of the travail of his soul and be satisfied; by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant, make many to be accounted righteous; and he shall bear their iniquities. 12 Therefore I will divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he poured out his soul to death, and was numbered with the transgressors; yet he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors. (Isaiah 52:13-53:12)¹

Isaiah makes it clear what God did was completely outside the norms of human expectations. (52:14-15) People could not believe it. (53:1) Jesus was the sacrifice to heal humanity. (53:5-6, 10-11) And because Jesus did this, God considers him more than a conqueror. (53:12)

The fulfillment of Isaiah's prophecy begins by showing Jesus willing to heal a leper (Matthew 8:3). It does not begin with the leper in the previous verse. Jesus is God's obedient servant (Psalm 40:6-8). It ends with Matthew quoting Isaiah's prophecy. (Matthew 8:17)

3 And he stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, "I will; be clean." And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. 4 And Jesus said to him, "See that you say nothing to any one; but go, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a proof to the people." 5 As he entered Capernaum, a centurion came forward to him, beseeching him 6 and saying, "Lord, my servant is lying paralyzed at home, in terrible distress." 7 And he said to him, "I will come and heal him." 8 But the centurion answered him, "Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof; but only say the word, and my servant will be healed. 9 For I am a man under authority, with soldiers under me; and I say to one, `Go,' and he goes, and to another, `Come,' and he comes, and to my slave, `Do this,' and he does it." 10 When Jesus heard him, he marveled, and said to those who followed him, "Truly, I say to you, not even in Israel have I found such faith. 11 I tell you, many will come from east and west and sit at table with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven, 12 while the sons of the kingdom will be thrown into the outer darkness; there men will weep and gnash their teeth." 13 And to the centurion Jesus said, "Go; be it done for you as you have believed." And the servant was healed at that very moment. 14 And when Jesus entered Peter's house, he saw his mother-in-law lying sick with a fever; 15 he touched her hand, and the fever left her, and she rose and served him. 16 That evening they brought to him many who were possessed with demons; and he cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick. 17 This was to fulfil what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah, "He took our infirmities and bore our diseases." (Matthew 8:3-17)

It is curious how Matthew wrote this. After the leper, Matthew brings in the Roman centurion, and his paralyzed servant. Then Matthew gives us Jesus' astonishing words, Truly, I say to you, not even in Israel have I found such faith. I tell you, many will come from east and west and sit at table with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven, while the sons of the kingdom will be thrown into the outer darkness; there men will weep and gnash their teeth. (Matthew 8:10-12) The version in Luke 7:2-10 does not give Jesus' prophecy on Israel's future. Matthew brings out what Isaiah hinted at, but would not say: rejection of the Messiah has devastating consequences. The sons of the kingdom would be thrown out into outer darkness.

After giving this terrible warning, Matthew continues with the instant healing of the centurion's servant, and the healing of Peter's mother in law. He mentions Jesus exorcising demons, and healing all who were ill. Then Matthew closes the section with the actual reminder of Isaiah's prophecy. In writing this way, Matthew sealed Jesus' prophetic warning to Israel inside the fulfillment.

Approximately seven hundred years separates Matthew's fulfillment from Isaiah's prophecy. Now we are 2000 years after Matthew's Gospel. People can say, What can anyone know of anything from that long ago?, and ignore the link between the two. The numeric features here should disabuse anyone of such notions. This is an active living prophecy, and the warning to Israel is even stronger now with numeric evidence.

As this was being written, Israel has been waging war on Gaza, turning it to rubble and starving two million people. There is no love here, and God is love. There is darkness as Jesus said. It is outer darkness as he prophesied. This is attempted genocide against those who might be their own people!³ The numeric features in this study confront Israel today, as Jesus confronted the Jews of his day. Jesus is the Messiah. Do they accept him or not? Will they return to the light, or will they stay in outer darkness? The message is also to the rest of the world, because Israel stands in as an example of the best and worst of humanity. Does the world accept Jesus or go into outer darkness with the Anti-Christ? Either way, God will be King over all (Ezekiel 20:33).

7.3Every other letter, or odd/even positioned letters is not the only way of extracting a complementary opposite. One could also take every other group of letters. The same thing could be applied again to the two resulting lists. This process could be repeated again and again. Over 158,000 sub-features are hidden in the 2160 letters. This is an astonishing number of numeric features, showing the depth and complexity of the prophecy and fulfillment.

The 158,000 sub-features might sound like a lot, but this must be put into perspective. The computer went through almost 7 million possibilities to find them. The odds would have suggested 1 million sub-features, since every seventh number is divisible by 7. When 7 million possibilities are tried, the odds usually balance out. The fact that only 158,000 sub-features were discovered is way below the odds. In other numeric studies where the number of features were above the odds, this one is pushed in the opposite direction. Their rebellion and lack of faith would put them into darkness. (Matthew 8:11-12; Luke 12:51-53)
